There’s no community that is not obsessed with their own in running the country. The 2022 drums have already been sounded and Kalenjins are already in the arena dancing, not only at the possibility of Deputy President William Ruto being president but also at their almost sureness.
Sure, there will be obstacles, I think that most Kalenjins have conveniently decided to ignore altogether. The prospect of DP Ruto as the president all so tantalizing that it blinds many from reasoning.
Looking closely, this obsession with a DP Ruto presidency is nothing more than just a farce, a continuation of destructive political ideologies laid down since independence.
However, these are the reasons many Kalenjins would love a Ruto presidency;
The Moi Factor
After the death of Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, Moi took over as president and went ahead to rule for 24 years. In that period, powerful Kalenjins emerged in the government including the late 'Total Man', Nicholas Biwott. Kalenjins are still reeling from the Moi era and would love to go back to that period where they enjoyed government largesse.
Winner takes all attitude
The best way to marshal a community nowadays is to plant a seed of fear that they will be neglected by another government other than their own. The idea of being in government is enough to make people wake up as early as 3 am to vote.
Psychological satisfaction
Quite regrettably, there’s a sense of apathy in a community when one of their leaders is accused of plundering national resources. Most often these leaders go ahead and even get elected by the community. As alluded by Moses Kuria, some of these people are merely voting robots, and their sense of satisfaction, sadly, is psychological not development.
