The incident happened on Tuesday morning at Magwagwa village in Nyamira North.

Confirming the incident, area police boss Robert Kipsom said the deceased identified as Haron was burnt beyond recognition after a house he was sleeping in caught fire.

"The deceased was burnt to death because he could not find his way from the house which caught fire while he was asleep at 2 am. Efforts by members of the public to put off the fire didn't bore fruits since the fire flames spread too fast," he said.

The police boss stated that the house of the deceased had not been connected with electricity.

"We have launched investigations to establish the cause of fire because the house was not connected with electricity to link the fire to an electric fault," he said.

He rubbished claims that the house which was burnt belongs to Nyamira County Deputy Governor Amos Nyaribo who is currently in India for treatment.

Kipsom said the deceased body was taken to Nyamira County hospital mortuary.
