Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General has called for the disappearance of deputy president William Ruto's supporters in 2022.
Speaking in Lamu county in a televised event by Citizen TV, during the fundraising for the Lamu Women Sacco attended also by Mombasa Governor Hassan Ali Joho, Atwoli said he prays that Ruto's supporters disappear before the elections.
"Na wanaomfuata wote, wakati wa uchaguzi utakapofika wapotee, (All his followers should disappear when the elections time comes),"he said
He issued the statement after praying that Ruto does not exist when the next polls come terming him a corrupt leader who exploits Kenyans.
The ageing Atwoli has been at the epicentre of Kenyan politics since Mzee Jomo Kenyatta's era and has been at the helm of COTU for decades.
The veteran trade unionist issued what has been perceived to be a life-threatening statement in Lamu when he said, DP Ruto will not be seen on the ballot, arguing it will be in accordance with the will of God.
The statements by the COTU boss elicited a heated debate in the country.
Political analyst Edward Kisiang'ani has asked Kenyans to reject the proposals of the prime minister positions for the country is already burdened.
In a tweet, Prof. Kisiang'ani said, "I sometimes feel so sad about the naivety of our people. Why do we fall into cheap traps? This referendum story is fake, dishonest n malicious. Our problem is poor legislation and poor implementation of a good document. We don't need a new constitution." his tweet read.
