Deputy President William Ruto has asked Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party to expect a tough contest in the upcoming Wajir West by-election.
The Deputy President says Raila’s party and others will have a tough contest in the upcoming by-election.
Speaking at Jubilee Party headquarters in Nairobi on Friday, Ruto asked ODM to prepare for a bruising battle.
He said that Jubilee Party did not contest the Wajir West seat in the 2017 general election because it had no candidate.
“This time we are prepared and are telling our friends in ODM and other parties to get ready for a serious battle in Wajir West, ” he said.
Ruto who was flanked with other party leaders said that Jubilee is riding on its principles of transformative development agenda and inclusivity ahead of the by-election.
The Deputy President, however, called for peaceful campaigns in the run-up to the by-election.
The Wajir West seat was left vacant after the Supreme Court nullified the election of Kolosh.
Kolosh decamped from ODM to Jubilee after losing the seat.
Political analyst Peter Ngure argues that the Wajir West contest will be a two horse race between Kolosh and Professor Yusuf Elmi who is flying the ODM ticket.
