Wycliffe Kenyanya Onchwangi died two years ago after being electrocuted while working near an electricity transformer.

In her ruling, Kisii Resident Magistrate Justice Priscah Wamucii ordered the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) to pay the family the amount.

“I have decided to award the family of the late Wycliffe Kenyanya Sh500,000,” she was quoted by the Standard.

However, the family through lawyer Dennis Nyatundo had applied for a Sh3 million compensation for the damages incurred.

The boy who was then 15 years old was electrocuted after getting into contact with electric wires while pruning a tree near the transformer.

The advocate told the court that the incident happened while the boy was doing a punishment given by his school headteacher.
