Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho on Sunday toured West Pokot county in an effort to drum up support for the Building Bridges initiative that was initiated by his ODM party leader former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta on March 9.
Joho who had visited retired President Daniel Moi at his Kabarak home on Saturday and toured Maralal in Samburu county, was in West Pokot following an invitation from Governor Stanley Kiptis.
"When HE Raila Odinga and HE Uhuru Kenyatta shook hands earlier this year. It brought a sense of calm to this nation. It brought a new sense of togetherness and peace to this country," said Joho.
"The handshake provided the backdrop for deeper conversation on an issue I hold dear to my heart, the pursuit for economic justice in our country today," he added.
Flanked by local Rift Valley leaders and his coast delegation, Joho extended the efforts on fostering unity and building bridges to West Pokot, a region believed to be solemnly behind Deputy President William Ruto.
"I personally believe, that we should use this opportunity to fundamentally change how our economy is organized, to entrench equity and to bring shared prosperity to all our people."
"If this shall require a constitutional amendment, we should not waste this peace opportunity," added the ODM deputy party leader who eyes the presidential seat in 2022.
