Kenyans on Saturday woke up to the sad news on the demise of retired President Daniel Moi's eldest son, Jonathan.
The news brought together top politicians from across the divide, with each camp sending a message of condolence to the family.
Among the high profile individuals who sent their condolence messages include President Uhuru Kenyatta, his deputy William Ruto, ODM leader Raila Odinga among many others.
Even as tributes pour in, many Kenyans do not know what exactly killed Jonathan.
It can now be revealed that the former President's son died after battling with cancer for several years.
While giving his speech on Sunday during the Eldoret Marathon, Ainabkoi Member of Parliament William Chepkut requested the gathering to observe a moment of silence in memory of Jonathan Moi who lost the battle to cancer.
"... before I give my speech, I request that we all stand up and observe a moment of silence for Jonathan Moi who died of cancer," MP Chepkut said in his speech that was aired live by several FM radio stations.
Amid the news, the family is yet to divulge more details including the date and place of burial.
Jonathan Moi, the eldest son of the former president Daniel Toroitich, came into the public limelight when he successfully vied for the Eldama Ravine legislative seat in the year 2002.
But what is going to be remembered of Jonathan is his love for Safari Rally.
