The Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett has issued a statement on the attack at 14 Riverside area in Westlands, Nairobi.
Boinett confirmed that the authorities suspect the incident is a terror attack, calling for calm as special forces continue to combat the attack.
"We regret to inform that today at about 3 pm, unknown armed assailants attacked the Dusit Complex in what we suspect could be a terror attack.
"Security and emergency services responded quickly to the incidence and we immediately cordoned off the area and the situation is being managed," stated IG Boinett.
He went on to say that; "we have made evacuation of many persons in the complex and the operation is still going on. We wish to offer our prayers to those affected and with a quick recovery to those who were injured.
"We are aware that there still could be some armed criminals still holed up in the building and our special forces are engaged in that operation to flush them out."
Boinett regretted that there were Kenyans injured but could not confirm the extent or number of casualties in the attack.
He urged Kenyans to remain calm as they would keep updating the nation on the combat efforts.
