On Wednesday during the Jeff Koinange Live show on Citizen television, he revealed a Maasai leader who he said is keen on succeeding the late veteran politician William Ole Ntimama as the community's kingpin.

Ruto who appeared on the show alongside Narok Senator Ledama Olekina said the Senator was out to blow the Mau Forest eviction process out of proportion as he angles to convince the Maasai that he deserves to be their principal leader.

During the show, Ledama had alleged that some of the Mau Forest occupants are members of the Kalenjin community from South Rift particularly Bomet where Ruto comes from.

"These people are not from Bomet. I have been on this issue for too long. What Ledama is trying to do is politicise the matter because he wants to be the new Ntimama- he wants to be the new hero of the community," Ruto said.

The issue of the Mau settlement and evictions has been pitting members of the Maasai community and those from Kalenjin land.

The contested part of the Mau Forest lies in Narok (Maasai land) but the Maasai accuse the Kalenjin of grabbing the land and are pushing for the government to evict illegal occupants of the forest land.

Ntimama by the time he died on September 2, 2016, was the leader of the Maasai community.
