On Monday, a tough speaking Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i reintroduced the famous Michuki Rules in a bid to restore order to the roads.

In a video widely shared on social media, Matiang'i fired warning to police officers, adding that they will have to comply the order.

"Arrest them. Zainab has enough finances to facilitate them in the remand. We must tame these people who take lives of people for granted."

He adds: "We shall sustain them in remand. Order must be restored in our roads. We can continue violating government policies."

By 3pm on Monday, Citizen TV reports, over 2000 rogue drivers had been arrested and detained in various police stations across the country.

1.Installing seat belts. Installing speed governors and painting a continuous yellow line around vehicle bodies.

2. All matatu crew to wear uniform and badges at all times.

3. Display the driver’s passport photo on the windscreen and avoid touting.

4. Long distance buses to maintain a timetable and must have two drivers.

5. Matatu crews to be paid on monthly basis and not on a daily as has been.

6. All passengers must put on safety belt while travelling.
