Family Bank has reported that over Sh20 million has been stolen from its Ruiru branch in a break-in that is believed to have happened over the weekend.

In a statement on Monday, the bank's head office confirmed the reports and assured its clients that services at the affected branch have not been suspended as investigations continue.

"Family Bank confirms that there was a break-in incident at our Ruiru branch over the weekend of June 14-16, 2018. We wish to inform our customers that our Ruiru branch is fully operational and open for business," read the statement.

According to Ruiru OCPD James Ngetich, the criminals gained access to the bank's strong room after tampering with the security alarm system and vandalising the fire alarm system.

"They managed to access the strong room to the safe by cutting the door using welding gas cylinder power and further accessed the branch ATM machine using claw bars and the welding gas power," the police boss reported.

The Nation reports that three managers, including the bank's security manager and a watchman, have been arrested for grilling.
