Machakos governor Dr Alfred Mutua has today come out in public and identify what he feels is the major problem with government borrowings.
In an exclusive interview on Jambo Kenya at Radio Citizen, Mutua has revealed that some of the money borrowed by the government is being stolen by individuals and not used for the meant purposes.
He has also asked the country to follow in America's footsteps stating that they borrow more money but they spent it in developing their country.
"Shida ya kukopa, ni pesa ya mkopo inaliwa na watu, haitumiki kwa miradi. Marekani ina madeni mengi lakini wanahakikisha kutumia pesa ya mikopo kuiendeleza nchi yao #Jambo" he said
(The problem with borrowing is that it's being used by individuals, not used for it's meant purpose. America has huge debts but they make sure that they use it in developing their country)
Kenya has been borrowing billions from China and different countries to fund different development sectors in the county.
Roads, Standard gauge railway lines among other government projects were all constructed through government loans. Mutua who is also on his last term in office believes that the country will develop a lot if loans we borrow are used accordingly to it's meant purposes.
