The leader of opposition Raila Odinga was on Monday heckled while addressing a public function in Kisumu, Daily Nation reports.
The ODM leader's speech was partly disrupted by the residents of Kango area in Muhoroni as they opposed the establishment of a special economic zone project in Ombeyi Ward.
According to Nation, Raila was heckled by the locals in protest of alleged land grabbing in the area. The project is slated for the official launch by President Uhuru Kenyatta in August 2019.
"Our coming here today marks the beginning of the establishment of Kisumu Special Economic Zone slated for official launch by President Uhuru Kenyatta in August, 2019. The completion of this project will see SGR reach in Kisumu, roads done, industries brought up among other developments thus creating jobs and investment opportunities in the great county of Kisumu," Raila told the locals.
He was accompanied by cabinet secretaries Peter Munya for Trade and Industrialization, C.S James Macharia for Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development and C.S for Petroleum and Mining, John Munyes.
The leaders were received by Kisumu's Deputy Governor Dr Ochieng' Owili and a host of county executive members on behalf of the Governor of the great county of Kisumu Prof Anyang' Nyong'o who is currently in Denmark for an official trip.
