In the photo suspected to have been taken during his last week's tour to Bobasi constituency, Arati is seen personally giving out money to villagers.

"This is someone purporting to be spokesperson of a community openly bribing voters. The same man comes out to the public as anti-corruption crusader. Hypocrisy of the highest order," said political analyst Gideon Mamboleo.

Youthful activist Carol Kwamboka added: "It is unfortunate that he can go around dishing money to villagers yet he purports to stand for integrity.'

Mr Arati, a controversial ODM politician, dismissed DP William Ruto last weekend as a 'thief' when both appeared for Shabana FC fundraiser.

He was installed as Gusii spokesman in March at Bobasi after traversing Nyamira and Kisii Counties for a few months.

Efforts to get a comment from him hit a snug with one of his handler, Frank Mirina dismissing the topic around the photo as 'pedestrian'.

"We have serious issues that we should focus on. Let people stop being negative all the time. Let's engage in constructive debates."

Cases of politicians paying supporters money to attend rallies are synonymous across Gusii and has often been blamed for poor leadership from among local politicians.
