Harambee Stars Striker Michael Ogada Olunga was back to his best on Sunday morning as he scored a goal for his Kashiwa Reysol side in a much a needed win.
Olunga scored in the 45th minute as his side defeated Tokushima 1-0 in a Japanese second tier league, commonly referred to as the J-League Division 2. The match was played at Reysol’s Hitachi Kashiwa Stadium.
The Harambe Stars Striker scored the goal after Tokushima’s goal keeper, Kajikawa, parried the ball that resulted from Olunga’s initial header.
He rose to head the ball after an inviting cross by Christiano, before the keeper parried the ball. That gave the former Gor Mahia striker a good opportunity to score the goal via his right foot. He rarely scores with his right foot.
After scoring, Olunga celebrated by running a few minutes before doing a somersault that reminded his fans of his days at Gor Mahia. Olunga’s side is now 6th on the J-League Division 2 log with 22 points after 13 rounds of matches.
The team has won 6 matches, managed a draw in four others and lost 3 games. Montedio Yamagata leads the standings with 27 points.
Michael Olunga is expected to lead Harambee Stars striking department during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt from June 21.
