Before shifting her political allegiance to Deputy President William Ruto, Aisha Jumwa was a staunch ally of Raila Odinga, who sought to lead the country in the August 8, 2017 general elections.
By then, Jumwa was the Kilifi County Woman Representative and wanted to oust Willy Mtengo as Malindi MP.
During one of the campaign rallies, Jumwa pleaded with Coast residents to endorse Odinga’s presidential bid in the August 8 general election.
She asked residents to vote for the NASA coalition which comprised of the opposition leaders, saying Raila was the only saviour of the Coast people.
"Coast people have suffered in the hands of the previous regimes that perpetuated inequality in resource distribution, grabbing of locals’ land and marginalization of communities," she said in Malindi.
Jumwa said the region will realize economic development if Raila ascends to power on August 8, 2017.
According to her, the Jubilee government has no solution to issues facing the Coast region, saying President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee government was using cheap development projects to woo residents.
However, Jumwa who worn the seat through Odinga's ODM party, now fully supports Ruto, after Raila and the entire NASA coalition failed to clinch presidency.
Jumwa cites Raila and Uhuru's March 9, handshake as the reason why she opted to support Ruto so as to ensure Kilifi residents are part of the 2022 government.
