The current crop of first years has been the focal point of discussion on social media for the past one week.

It is expected for first years to be naive and 'unexposed', but this year's admission has witnessed a whole new shocking level of 'naiveness'.

One first-year student, for instance, was spotted with his high school uniform on the day of admission. The uniform was well ironed and accompanied by well polished toughees shoes and a metal box together with a brand new mattress.

It is so evident and apparent that the first year thought uniforms are worn even at the university level. Or probably, he thought a university is another level of a boarding high school.

Then there is another 'fresher' who was spotted in his games skit along the academic highway. One may argue that the first year did not have any other cloth to wear, but come on, couldn't he afford even a Sh50 worth shirt? How can you wear a full games kit with the short included on the campus?

Yes, I know back in high school you were told that there is complete freedom on campus but that does not give ladies the right to walk only in a shirt. One first year almost found herself in trouble at Talai centre after she stepped out of the house wearing only a baggy shirt. This is not fashion or sexiness; it is stupidity of the highest level.

Finally dear first years, there is no such thing as a dormitory at the university, it is called a hostel. Then we don't eat at the dining hall, we eat at the mess. So please bring down the hype, be humble and learn.
