West Pokot Governor Prof John Lonyang'apuo has dismissed claims that he pays his deputy, Dr Nicholas Owon Atudonyang, in absentia.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen’s JKL Show, Lonyang'apuo said that his deputy only earns when he is around.
He faulted leaders who have been accusing him of paying someone who is not doing anything for the county since he was elected into office.
“My deputy is currently not earning a salary. He only earns when he is around, "the county boss said in a tweet by Citizen TV.
He also assured residents that his deputy is working, adding that he is the only one with two roles in the entire nation. Lonyang'apuo also said that the DG has been of great support to his government and there was no cause for alarm. He noted that he has been receiving medical equipment from overseas through the coordination of his deputy.
“I have an able deputy. I sent him on a mission abroad. He is the first Deputy Governor who is also a CEC,” he said.
The county boss also said that his government has done a lot since he took over office. He noted that the education sector has thrived since his election. Besides introducing adult education, he noted that students are also taught peace-related issues to enable them to co-exist with other communities in the wake of animosity that results from cattle rustling.
“We have a 'peace school’ where children from areas rife with cattle rustling come to study. We ensure each of the warring communities has children from their community in the school,” noted Lonyang'apuo.
