The famous handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has been seen by a section of people as a point of decline to the Deputy President Ruto .
Ruto on the other hand has actually been vocal in his support for the handshake and he has his strategy in place.
First, he knows he has a deal with president Uhuru Kenyatta to succeed him and that assures him of Jubilee support.
Recently there has been speculation that he may not get the support but the only person who can really give the final verdict is president Uhuru Kenyatta who has never mentioned at any point he won't support deputy President Ruto.
Now the handshake has cooled down political temperature and deputy president Ruto has used this chance to make frequent visits to areas perceived not to be in favor of Jubilee from last election statistics.
Since the handshake Ruto has made visits to coastal and western part of Kenya which politically can be seen as a way to woo the people from these areas to support him in the next elections.
The response has actually been positive for Ruto as he has been promised support from these areas even from some senior politicians who were in opposition last elections.
Former Kakamega County senator Dr. Boni khalalwe from western Kenya and Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa from coast are among politicians who were fierce critics of Ruto previously and have offered their support especially after the handshake.
The fact that the handshake has enabled Ruto to go and get support in these areas perceived opposition strongholds added to the fact that he has a deal in Jubilee is actually working in favour of DP Ruto.
