In Kisumu, Reuben Ombura scored 444 marks to emerge the best candidate at the MM Shah Primary School, nine marks shy of the two top candidates who scored 453 marks each.

“I am really happy with my results. I really want to thank God for the results that he has given unto me. Usain Bolt once said that it is not the race that is hard; it is the preparation,” he told journalists on Monday.

“The preparation was really tough but the teachers supported me and I am happy that I have not let them down. I wish to go to my School of choice with is Alliance Boys High School. When I grow up I want to become a doctor and I will keep on studying hard,” he added.

Over 1 million candidates sat for KCSE exams across the country early this month.

While releasing the results on Monday, CS Mohamed said that 50% of the candidates got more than 250 marks.

She said that 12, 273 candidates got 400 marks and above, compared to 9, 846 who scored 400 and above last year.
