Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya Mgalla has urged parents to coach their bchildren to concentrate in their studies.
Addressing the 2018 KCPE candidates who got slots to national students and parents at Baraza Park in Kwale, the governor said the ambition of its government is to ensure that in the near future other Counties should be looking for professionals from Kwale.
"Students should stop addiction to Facebook and rather face the book for great academic results," he said as he issued school fees cheques worth Sh26 million to 717 students from Matuga Sub-county.
“Great results are not achieved by the students alone, parents also have a big role to play,” he added.
His sentiments were echoed by his deputy, Fatuma Achani who said students cannot perform if they lack discipline.
Achani gave a stern warning to students with poor performance stating that the main cause of poor performance is lack of discipline and urged the beneficiaries to work extra hard to retain the sponsorship.
Education CeC Mangale Chiforomodo upheld the governor saying Kwale will never be the same again since the County government's 'Elimu ni sasa' initiative had changed the education narrative for more than 500%.
“Elimu ni sasa is a great initiative that has completely changed the face of Kwale,” he said.
The programme started in 2014 with 258 students.
In 2018 the number increased to 3,600 and 647 national school students are expected to join the programme come 2019 making the total number of national school students who are fully sponsored to 4247.
