Tension is high in Solai after police teargassed a group of residents who had assembled for a meeting.
The group is said to be victims of the Solai dam wgich burst and left damage to the local community.
The victims were reportedly set to meet a group of Human Rights crusaders when the meeting was declared illegal.
"We had assembled for a meeting with Kenya Human Rights Commission over the collapse of the dam. They have teargassed us," John Kiriti said.
Police said the meeting had been banned and termed as a security threat.
"They have no permit for this meeting. Everyone is free to have a meeting but follow the protocol," a police officer said.
Solai Dam was a privately owned embankment in Solai. The dam burst amid heavy rains on May 9, 2018, killing at least 48 people.
Property worth millions was also destroyed.
