According to the traders, they have so far lost over Sh200 million since the market was closed about a year ago for renovations.

"We have stayed without working leading to others losing their lives because of stress and pressure. We call upon our father governor Mandago to intervene since we are really suffering," said the traders' chairman Chairman  Zakayo Maina in Eldoret, Friday.

"If there is any problem we are ready to come and sit down to solve the matter once and for all," he added.

The traders also faulted the move by the Uasin Gishu County government of denying them a chance to offload their luggage during the day at the market.

They said they were ready to meet the governor and solve any issues on their operations at the market noting that "we know you have been fed with negative information about us but we don't have any bad intention."

On his part, Huruma Member of County Assembly Peter Chomba claimed that delays in the reopening of the market was a plot by the county government to lock out traders from some tribes from using the market.

"It is sad that county chooses the community to do business in the county, let us not politicize the matter since these people regardless of their political or tribal affiliations are human beings and have families who rely on them," said Chomba.
