The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party's surprising withdrawal from the Wajir West by-election continues to draw reactions in the political circles.
Eldas MP Adan Keynan is the latest politician to react to ODM’s decision.
In a phone interview, the veteran politician welcomed the Raila Odinga led party's move noting that it will foster unity among locals.
He said that clan divisions had started to emerge ahead of the April 25 by-election.
According to Keynan, both Kolosh and Professor Mohamed Yusuf Elmi hail from the same clan.
“We are happy by the decision made by ODM because it is going to strengthen the clans and unite Wajir people,” he said in a phone interview on Wednesday.
He asked residents and supporters not to perceive Yusuf’s withdrawal from the by-election as an act of cowardice but a sign of good will for the people.
Keynan said professor Elmi is respected, adding that they will work together to foster the county's unity and development.
The MP urged Wajir West residents to come out in large numbers to vote for Ahmed Kolosh in the by-election.
The Orange party withdrew from the mini-poll after a consultative meeting with Jubilee party.
The Raila led party further said its decision was in reciprocation of Jubilee’s move not to field candidates in the recently concluded Ugenya and Embakasi South by-election.
The Orange party suffered defeat in the by-elections and political pundits claim that its withdrawal from the Wajir West race was an act of sensing defeat.
