The Wiper party had groomed Kiala to dethrone the governor on August 8, 2017 elections after he defied the Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader in 2015.

Since then, Kiala traversed the county seeking votes in premature political campaigns for the Machakos gubernatorial seat ahead of the 2017 polls.

However, Kiala was later shortchanged after the Wiper party issued former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti with a direct nomination ticket for the same seat.

Feeling betrayed by the Wiper party, Kiala complained and pushed for nominations with the then-senator Johnstone Muthama.

After much pressure, the nomination date was set for a Sunday. Wiper supporters turned out in large numbers and participated in the primaries

However, after the nominations, Kiala cried foul after he lost claiming that the election was not free and fair and there's need for a repeat.

After some weeks, Wiper party conducted another nomination exercise in which Kiala lost again for the second time.

He then opted to get to the ballot for the Machakos gubernatorial seat as an independent candidate.

With just a week to the August 8, 2017 polls, Kiala gave up the fight and pulled out of the race.

Kiala's name was, however, on the ballot papers.

Now, Wiper party has again denied Kiala the opportunity to be Ndeti's running mate in case of a by-election in the county following a petition case before the Supreme Court.

Former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama has maintained that Kiala must replace ex-EALA MP Peter Mathuki as Ndeti's deputy.

The Wiper party has, however, declared that it will not replace Ndeti's running-mate.
