Kiambu is among counties in the country that Deputy President William Ruto is banking on to harvest votes during the 2022 general election.
The county has some of the most vocal MPs who are in support of the DP's quest to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta when his term comes to an end in 2022.
However, these vocal elected leaders have for the last more than one month been silent with most of them skipping the DP's events either in Central Kenyan or outside the region.
Among those who have remained quiet for a while now include Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wa, his Gatundu South counterpart Moses Kuria as well as nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura. The three have been on the lead telling Mt Kenya voters and Kenyans in general to support Ruto's State House bid in 2022.
So why have they been silent?
There is a likelihood that the lawmakers have realised that they are concentrating more on the DP's campaigns and forgetting to serve their own constituents. Perhaps that is why Kuria flew last week to the US to lobby for investor's support in his constituency. Kuria this week signed a deal with a top University in the US which is expected to partner with the Kenya Medical Training College to offer Health training to Gatundu South medical students.
Ichung'wa, on the other hand, has been busy holding fundraisers, mainly for education institutions in his Kikuyu backyard. He has also for the last one month launched a dozen development projects in the constituency.
When Ruto toured Kiambu last week, Kuria, Ichung'wa and Mwaura were absent in all the DP's events. The only notable leaders who welcomed Ruto in the county were Senator Kimani Wamatangi, Governor Ferdinand Waititu and Woman Representative Muthoni Wa Muchomba.
