Its no lie that Luo Nyanza region is and has for the last two decades been a bedrock of opposition leader Raila Odinga.
However, with the changing political times and the nearing 2022 general elections, more politicians might make attempts to invade the region with the hope of a portion of its vote.
Here are some of the leaders who might be picked as presidential running mates by other presidential aspirants with the hope of tapping in the Luo vote.
1. Okoth Obado
The latter is not a very good friend of Raila courtesy of his troublesome and rebellious nature.
In November last year, his kin were heard accusing Raila of his woes after he was arrested in Nairobi and his houses and offices ransacked over alleged involvement in graft.
If approached to deputize any person, the latter will most likely take the offer with the sole aim of getting back at Raila who is also expected to take his fifth shot at the seat.
Being on his last term, Obado will also be hoping for a higher slot after the 2022 polls and will willingly take any running mate proposal as he has nothing to lose anymore.
2. Raphael Tuju
The Cabinet Secretary without portfolio is the only Luo leader closest to the ruling Jubilee leadership, these being President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.
Having been part of the winning side against Raila for the last three consecutive elections, he could be picked to back Ruto for the 2022 polls.
He too has nothing to lose considering that he holds no elective seat and recently made it clear that he is comfortable in his current post.
Back in Nyanza, he is fully aware that he will not be subjected to bashings for betraying the community, as they are used to him running in the opposite direction.
Therefore, he will be very happy to again be part of the team that once again crushes Raila's dream.
