Siaya Senator James Orengo has called for calm within a section of Jubilee Party leaders uncomfortable with the union between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Deputy President William Ruto and his brigade have been questioning Raila's intentions, claiming that he is up to some mischief now that he appears well within Jubilee.
But speaking in Ugenya, Siaya county on Monday, Orengo said that the Raila-Uhuru friendship has no evil intentions apart from bettering the nation.
He noted that contrary to what they think, the union is solely based on more important issues, among them the war on corruption.
"They think the handshake is to deny them leadership. No. We are working together with the President to make Kenya better than we found it," said Orengo.
He also took issue with some persons within the government for allegedly using their powers to frustrate the corruption purge.
He called for a referendum to hand more powers to the institutions entrusted with the role of leading the fight against graft.
"We must have a referendum to amend the law and give room for a successful fight against corruption," he added.
Ruto and team have also questioned the anti corruption campaign, terming it a deliberate plan to fight some elements ahead of the 2022 general elections.
