Nominated Member of the National Assembly Gideon Keter has reiterated his support for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report.
Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV on Friday, Keter said that he backs the push for a referendum but wants youths to be included in most of the recommendations.
The lawmaker argued that youths have not been following leaders in order to get handouts at the end of the day. He noted that youth should be given a chance to air their grievance if the report is to be implemented to the latter.
" Not all young people look to leaders to get handouts. Some want to hold leaders to account.BBI is a good thing but as youth, we want to speak for ourselves," he said.
The legislator said that for a long time the youth have been languishing in abject poverty because of poor governance. He lamented that the government has failed to set programmes that can benefit them at the end of the day.
"We need to create an environment for the young person to thrive," he said
Keter reaffirmed that youth unemployment is one of the major problems facing the country and the BBI report must ensure that the same is addressed fully.
