One year after the government banned the use plastic bags in the country, the business still booms in Nyamira.
Addressing the media in his office, Nyamira NEMA county Director Stanley Ambasa has said the banned plastic bags are in circulation.
"We have a big issue about the recurrence of plastic bags in the county and it happens that there are some some people smuggling in plastics bags and we suspect they are coming from across borders," said Ambasa.
Ambasa further said his office has now been forced to engage other state agencies which he believes will help the Authority curb the circulation of such bags.
"We are now working with the police especially the criminal investigation department CID which will help us trace this people who are smuggling plastic bags into the county."
His reaction comes at a time when some of Nyamira residents are using the banned plastic bags mostly at night as a way of avoiding arrest.
