Mambala Felix,7, was reportedly knocked down by a vehicle that was carrying Dr Ruto's press team at 4:30pm when the DP was leaving Busia for Nairobi.

On Friday night, Dr Ruto took to his social media to confirm the unfortunate incident, adding that he would monitor his situation at the hospital.

"It has come to my attention that after leaving a function in my development tour of Busia County, a young boy, Sidney Mamba Felix, got in an accident involving a car in my entourage.

"Following the unfortunate incident, Sidney was placed under immediate medical attention and my office is being appraised of and reacting to the boy's condition to ensure he gets proper treatment. Praying for his quick recovery," wrote Dr Ruto.

And on Saturday morning, Dr Ruto, who had been following closely the situation, confirmed the death of the school boy, adding that he was in touch with the affected family.

"Saddened by the news of the passing on of Sidney Mamba Felix, a young and bubbly boy. Followed closely the situation after I was informed of the unfortunate incident and, now, deeply condole with the family of Mzee Mamba, his peers and friends for the grave loss of a loved one.

"I have spoken with Mzee to pass my consideration and assured the family of reference and support during this difficult time. May God rest young Sidney in eternal peace," said the DP

The accident had caused uproar on social media with reports indicating that Dr Ruto's security team had blocked a good Samaritan who has rushed to the scene to take the boy to the hospital. The security is said to have cleared the scene and placed the boy in the sidelines of the road.

“They [DP Ruto’s security team] placed him on the roadside. He had serious breathing complications at the time. The boy’s parents rushed to the scene and took him to hospital,” said a witness.
