It was celebrations at the Nakuru Women Prison on Thursday following a visit by members of Wema PCEA Church in partnership with Rift Valley Institute of Business Studies.
The group, led by Pastor Pauline Kang’uthu and Paul Kagi form RVIBS, had a church service with inmates and donated foodstuffs among other necessities.
The students from RVIBS also provided pedicure and manicure services to the women at the prison.
Addressing media at the facility, pastor Kang’uthu said the visit was prompted by their mission of evangelizing through love.
He urged society to continue showing love to the less fortunate.
According to her, rampant cases of murder in families, corruption and even diseases can be addressed if people will show love towards one another.
“As a church, we are here in line with our mission as a church to care and to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ in love. We are also calling on everyone in the society to ensure that they impact positively on those around them so that we can avert cases such as murder, corruption etc,” she said.
Sentiments echoed by elder Joseph Mwangi Gathera who said such visits are paramount to the women who are serving their sentences.
“When we visit them, they feel valued and the society should also embrace them once they complete their sentences,” he said.
Susan Mbugua, a prison officer, said the facility has many needs calling on well-wishers to offer their help.
