There was drama in Malindi when a prison warder was nabbed by colleagues with drugs hidden in his private parts.
A video recorded during the incident shows his fellow warders wrestling him to the ground as they reach for the drugs.
One of the warders, apparently of a higher rank, is heard giving orders that all the drugs should be recovered.
"Remove all of them. How can a grown man hide all those drugs in his private parts? Who will he accuse of framing him?" he asked.
The drugs were all recovered after the warder was overpowered by his colleagues.
The suspect was not immediately identified by it appeared he was on a mission to traffic the drugs into the prison. It was, however, not clear how his mission was unmasked.
In 2010, police unmasked a smuggling racket by prison warders. Isaac Njoroge Kago, a warder at Kamiti Maximum Security Prison in Kiambu, was arrested with various intoxicants, including 12 bottles of chang’aa (illicit brew), 675 rolls of bhang, a half-kilogramme of tobacco snuff, nine packets of condoms, three gas lighters, three sachets of yeast, benzhexol drugs and two masking tapes.
Njoroge said poor pay of warders makes them conduct business with inmates where items are sold to the inmates at exorbitant rates.
