A High court sitting in Nakuru has barred the suspect in Irene Jepchumba's murder from visiting his native home for the holidays.
Godfrey Kangongo is accused of murdering the Rift Valley Institute's lecturer on July 6, 2018, at Kaimunyu in Rongai Sub-county.
Jepchumba's relatives retrieved her body from Molo river in Rongai.
Kangongo claimed that the deceased fell off the cliff of Choka falls while taking a selfie.
Kangongo had pleaded with the court to review his bond terms and allow him to be with his family during the Christmas holidays.
Justice Joel Ngugi turned down his request and ordered him to stay away from his home.
The suspect was released from custody on a Sh500,000 with a surety of the same amount.
"He should neither visit Rongai without approval from this court nor contact any witness or family, whether directly or indirectly, pending the trial," Ngugi ruled on Thursday.
This was after the State prosecutor in the case told the court that the suspect was capable of interfering with the witnesses.
The prosecution also accused Kangongo of threatening the victim's family members who live in the same area.
In August, state counsel Amos Chigiti said there were investigations going on to clarify the possibility that Ms. Jepchumba was raped before she was murdered.
'Kangongo's lawyers have been making applications for various orders as hearing is set to start.
Justice Ngugi said the case will be mentioned on January 15.
