Mwilu who was arrested on Tuesday is facing several charges revolving around corruption, including allegations of forgery and misuse of office.

In a tweet on Wednesday, Khalwale claimed that opposition leader Raila Odinga is fully involved in the case, alleging that he is silently involved in the attempt to facilitate Mwilu’s acquittal.

The former Kakamega gubernatorial aspirant observed that Raila has facilitated Mwilu’s galaxy of top-lawyers, advising him to instead use a more open approach to free the top judge.

He noted that Mwilu's tribulations are political, urging the former Prime Minister to reach out to President Uhuru Kenyatta using their newfound friendship and appeal on her behalf.

''@RailaOdinga, many Kenyans think Justice Philomena Mwilu’s tribulations are political. Stop hiding behind the Orengo led team of 34 defense lawyers! Just ask @UKenyatta, in the spirit of the so called handshake, not to use the fight against corruption to settle political scores,’’ tweeted Khalwale.

The arrest has to some extent been linked to Uhuru’s threat to revenge after the Supreme Court’s nullification of his August 2017 reelection.
