Parents in Kibwezi, Makueni county have been warned against forcing their school going children repeat classes.
Kibwezi Sub-county director of education Kennedy Machora said it's against the law for parents to force their children to repeat classes against their will.
Machora said some parents have a tendency of making their children repeat classes.
He said anyone found culpable will face the full force of the law.
"There should be full transition of kids from one class to another, parents should not go against this," Machora said.
He said children should learn from class one to form four without disruptions.
Machora addressed the press in Kibwezi on Thursday.
He urged parents to take care of their children and have time for talks.
"Let parents take advantage of the vacation and talk to their kids, know their dreams, hopes and ambitions. Encourage, caution and guide them where necessary," he said.
Machora said schools opening day is just a week away.
He made the sentiments a few days after education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed extended the opening dates by a day.
Primary and secondary schools were supposed to open on January 2nd but will now be opening on 3rd.
Amina attributed the extension to giving students who had travelled for December festivities time to return home.
