Though he seems to have lost his music footing currently, he remains one of the most iconic musicians in not only the Luo region, but the entire nation.
Tom Mboya Ang’ang’a popularly known as Atommy Sifa began as a dancer in Luo song queen Princess July’s band before settling down to do his own music some years back.
Sifa who hails from Adiedo, Karachuonyo in Homa Bay County, hence his nickname ‘Wuod Adiedo’, has since been nicknamed Kenya’s Michael Jackson courtesy of his bleached skin.
He recently found himself in trouble after he released a song mocking opposition leader Raila Odinga and his presidential ambitions in the run up to the concluded elections.
Sifa would make it even worse when he went ahead to release a song dubbed ‘Uhuru Nyale (Uhuru is capable)’, praising the man who was then Raila’s chief rival.
This saw him seek refuge in the neighboring Tanzania when Raila’s allies and supporters reportedly banished him from his ancestral home for castigating the Luo Nyanza political Kingpin.
His fellow musicians also disowned him for disrespecting the former Prime Minister.
“We have disowned him for composing a song that is shameful at a time the region’s political kingpin seeks the highest office in the land,” Otieno Small, a celebrated Benga star told the Standard.
This forced him to apologize to Raila and his supporters.
“I also want to take this opportunity to publicly apologize to Raila and the entire Luo community. I want them to know and understand that I had no bad intentions and was only out to make a living,” he was quoted.
Sifa’s best hits include Awino Model and Nyako Iberna.
