According to the party nominated MP and Mudavadi's leading critic Godfrey Osotsi, Mudavadi was just admitted into the party before being handed the leadership slot.

Speaking on Wednesday, the MP claimed that he was among the party founders, and personally admitted Mudavadi and signed him in ahead of the 2017 elections.

"Ni sisi tuliokukaribisha katika ANC mnamo June 2, 2015. Mimi ndiye niliyekuingiza katika chama kwa hivyo use na heshima (We welcomed him into the party on June 2, 2015. Let him show some respect, I personally admitted him)," he said.

Osotsi was speaking on Milele FM's Kivumbi show on Wednesday morning.

He said that Mudavadi did not play any role in the formation and establishment of the party, but came after all the due diligence had been undertaken and it was ready for takeoff.

Osotsi added that he is also to thank for the National Super Alliance (NASA) coalition which the opposition unsuccessfully rode on in the 2017 elections.

He said that he is the one who reserved the alliance name and later registered it at the Registrar of Political Parties, though Mudavadi has been enjoying the credit as the founder.

"Hata NASA ni mimi ndiye niliyeiandikisha kule kwa msajili wa vyama vya kisisasa (I am also the one who registered NASA at the registrar)," he added.

He said that Mudavadi only took over to woo the other alliance members to join the alliance before its defeat to President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee Party in the presidential race.
