Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has been the latest leader to weigh-in on the disputed lifestyle audit proposal, expressing his willingness to undergo the test.
Speaking on Radio Jambo on Tuesday evening, the lawmaker said that he can account for everything he owns and is, therefore, unshaken by the President Uhuru Kenyatta anti-graft test.
Sakaja revealed that apart from being a legislator, he also doubles up as a businessman, terming the two as the source of his fortune..
‘’Mimi napokea mshahara wa ubunge na pia niko na biashara zangu kwa wale wanaojiuliza natoa wapi pesa za michango yangu kwa timu zetu za spoti. Mimi I can account for what I own. (I draw my funds from my parliamentarian job and businesses for those wondering about the source of my finances),’’ he said.
Similar comments have since been made by Uhuru, who actually vowed to lead the pack in being audited and his deputy William Ruto who has as well expressed his willingness to take part in the same.
It, however, comes amid resistance from some quarters, especially a section of leaders allied to Ruto, who have termed the audit illegal, with Sakaja noting that the same should be countered by founding it in the constitution.
‘’Ni vyema Rais na makamu wake wamekubali kufanyiwa audit na sasa ni kazi yetu kama wabunge kuiweka katika sheria (since both the President and his deputy are for the test, its now upon us as parliamentarians to legalise it),’’ he added.
