The consignment which belongs to Mega Garment Industries, Changamwe, were allegedly diverted by an employee, who has since gone underground, on March 14 while on transit from Mombasa Port to Changamwe Mega EPZ.

According to DCI, the rolls were nabbed hidden at a go-down located inside Mabruk House in Eastleigh on March 26.

Police are yet to arrest any suspects but according to a tweet by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, officers are pursuing leads to ensure the thieves are arrested and taken to court.

The incident had caused jitters among employees who according to the Administration Manager Mr Geoffrey Sadi, many would have lost their jobs if security officers had not traced the materials.

“This would have made around 1,000 workers go home, at least we are happy the workers are assured of their jobs and the buyer will also get his products. So we are now sure the workers will still have their jobs." Sadi said in a presser outside Mabruk House.

Reports from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations show that the consignment had been cleared at the Port of Mombasa on March 14 after it was imported from Bangkok.
