Residents of Rateti in West Mugirango, Nyamira County were on Sunday left in a rude shock after a one-day-old infant was retrieved from the body alive.
Locals said the woman who dumped the infant is yet to be known.
Confirming the incident, area chief Livingston Mabuka said the infant was heard crying from the toilet by a man who went to respond to a short call in the toilet.
"A man went to relieve himself in the toilet when he heard the baby crying and raised alarm. Villagers rushed to scene and managed to retrieve the infant, a baby girl," said Mabuka.
Mr Mabuka said the infant was immediately rushed to Nyamira hospital for treatment.
"We thank God medics are doing everything possible to ensure the girl survives. Women should stop dumping babies into toilets," he stated.
He appealed to members of the public to report any woman who might have given birth and ended up dumping the innocent baby in the toilet.
"The woman who dumped the baby must be arrested to be sent to jail and serve as an example to other women intending to give birth and dump babies," he added.
