More than 25,000 residents living along the Indian Ocean at Ngomeni village, Kilifi county are afraid that they could be displaced from what they believe the Indian Ocean is encroaching their village day by day.
Led by Albert Kiraga, the residents told the press that the small town of Ngomeni in Magarini sub-county could be no more in two years time if nothing will be done by rerelevant authorities.
“We believe that salt firms in Magarini that source salt water from here have contributed to the woes the residents of Ngomeni experience, and in two years time, the village may not be there,” said Kiraga.
According to Ngomeni Beach Management Unit chairman Faruk Mohamed Amin, immediate steps need to be taken to rescue area residents.
"This village was a renown town before, but from what we are experiencing Ngomeni will no longer be part of Kenya if immediate action is not implemented. It will be all consumed by the sea water.”
