Kisumu Governor Peter Anyang' Nyong'o is not only one of the most experienced politicians in the Council of Governors, but also among the oldest, currently at 73 years of age.
However, he has also been making the headlines for poor health over the last three years, conditions that have been affecting his operations and service to his people.
The latest was on Saturday when he was taken ill during the coronation of Philip Anyolo as the new Kisumu Catholic Archbishop at Uzima ground in Kisumu.
He was later diagnosed with low blood pressure after a trip to the doctor and was reportedly instructed to rest as he recuperates.
In September 2018, the county chief was once again in hospital after an arm fracture. He was admitted at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi for treatment.
Nine months earlier, in December 2017, he was flown to the University of California Hospital where he underwent a hipbone surgery at the San Francisco health facility.
This followed a period of endurance from the governor who would later reveal that he had been surviving on painkillers for almost a year before flying out.
He said that he had to remain in the nation for the campaigns and elections.
His revelation came after an opinion in one of the local dailies.
“Many may have observed me limping from time to time as we struggled for the betterment of our county and country,” he said in the article as was seen by the Nation.
In November 2016 he narrowly another date with the doctor after escaping unhurt in an accident along Kiambu Road.
He was headed to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for a flight to Kisumu.
