Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri has 'revealed' how Deputy President William Ruto saved President Uhuru Kenyatta's presidency ahead of the 2017 presidential rerun.
This was after Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) boss Raila Odinga and his brigade successfully petitioned Uhuru's August reelection at the Supreme Court.
Ngunjiri on Tuesday claimed that Uhuru was so discouraged after the nullification of his election that he wanted to give up, but the DP managed to convince him otherwise.
He claimed that were it not for the DP, Uhuru was willing to withdraw from the contest, which would have seen the opposition have an easy job clinching the position.
"In 2017, when we were told to repeat the elections, Uhuru was almost giving up but Ruto said 'let's go, we have the vote, we didn't steal. They did not put any case that there was any vote stolen''," said the MP during a press conference at his home in Nakuru.
Just like Ruto had said, Raila and his brigade were well aware that they stood no chance against the UhuRuto duo," he added.
He said that after showing their readiness to participate in the rerun, Raila had no option but to boycott the polls.
"When we repeated Raila did not agree because he knew he will still be defeated," he added.
