The student had taken the abortion pills on Tuesday morning in the presence of her boyfriend hoping they will work. However, at around 2.00 pm, she began bleeding continuously.

"At first we thought the bleeding was normal when it comes to abortion. The doctor who gave us the pills had said she would only bleed for some few minutes," Fredrick Rono, the student's boyfriend explained.

The bleeding, however, continued for almost an hour, therefore throwing the couple into a panic. The lady became extremely weak while still bleeding.

During the interview, Rono who was evidently frustrated and frightened said her girlfriend had insisted for the abortion despite his opposition.

"I had told her not to carry out the abortion especially because it is extremely dangerous. She was however worried that her parents might throw her out and so she insisted to carry out the procedure," Rono stated.

On reaching the clinic, the doctor said although she had lost a lot of blood, she would be okay. The doctor who declined to go into the details of the lady's status advised students against carrying out abortions as they have dangerous consequences.

"It might seem as a better option at first, but it comes with a lot of side effects including being barren. Young ladies should, therefore, stop going for abortions as a way out of pregnancy," Dr. Zaddock Werunga advised.

Incidences of abortions have been on the rise in most universities across the country. A few weeks ago an aborted foetus was found dumped inside a ladies hostel at Moi University.
