A video of a suspected thief being slapped by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has caused mixed reactions on social media, hours after it first emerged.

The unidentified man allegedly stole a phone and was frog matched by residents of Eastleigh who handed him to Sonko.

A section of the Kenyans on Twitter have raised questions on whether it was right for Sonko to slap the young man. 

Some have even urged the victim to report the case to the police as it was wrong for leaders holding government positions to assault the citizens.

A number of the netizens also called on the relevant authorities to investigate the matter citing that Sonko was not above the law.

Chapter six of the constitution demands that; A State officer shall behave, whether in public and official life, in private life, or in association with other persons, in a manner that avoids (a) any conflict between personal interests and public or official duties; (b) compromising any public or official interest in favour of a personal interest; or (c) demeaning the office the officer holds.
