Flamboyant city lawyer Donald Kipkorir has found himself on the receiving end after he threatened to sue NRG Radio on behalf of Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge.
Kipkorir, the managing partner of KTK advocates, on Friday wrote to NRG threatening to sue the station for using Kipchoge's name and images without his consent.
He accused the radio of contravening his client rights and demanded unqualified apology within two hours of receiving the demand letter.
The lawyer further asked NRG to remove Kipchoge's name and images from all its brands and social media platforms.
The move, however, did not go well with some prominent Kenyans who observed Kipkorir was blowing a small issue out of proportion.
Director of Communications in the Office of Deputy President, Emmanuel Talam, accused the renowned lawyer of watering down Kipchoge's achievements by opening a legal battle with the station.
"Donald is a fine lawyer but he's a horrible PR manager...in one shot he's destroyed history. Anyway it's all about the pocket," Talam tweeted.
Veteran journalist David Makali accused Kipkorir of an attempt to 'privatise an icon' and noted two hours he gave NRG to respond to his demand letter was too short.
"This is trying too hard to exploit value and privatise an icon, Don. It is never that serious. And 2hrs? Pris. I am sure NRG is suitably advised, its indiscretions notwithstanding," he said.
