Outspoken lawyer Ahmednassir Abdullahi came out to note that the controversial city blogger Robert Alai is not as smart as people think he is.
In a tweet on Wednesday evening, the Garissa born lawyer attacked Alai for showing weakness during a court hearing. During his hearing, he looked worried and shaken as opposed to how people know him from his posts and arguments online.
"Robert Alai is not a SMART dude and even his FACE is a testimony to that...but surely what is this law that denies him his basic human rights? Which law gives the police the powers to hold him after 24 hours? Isn't detention without trial expressly prohibited in our constitution?" said Ahmednassir.
Robert Alai was presented before Milimani Law Court Senior Resident Magistrate Tobiko Sinkiyan on Wednesday. He was arrested for sharing photos of slain police officers from the IED attack in Wajir on his twitter account.
During the hearing, the police requested that Alai be detained for 30 days as they investigate on the links he has with the Somalia based militia group Al Shabaab.
The police had claimed during the hearing that Alai got the pictures he circulated from an Al Shabaab member, who was present at the scene.
