The estranged wife of embattled 1500m Olympic Champion Asbel Kiprop has finally spoken after the athlete asked National Police Service to sack him and withdraw his gun before he does something nasty.
The wife, Sammary Cherotich, has asked social media users not to launch attacks on the athlete and instead seek for ways to help him restore his lost glory.
The athlete, who was found guilty of doping, has been hitting headlines for months after he was involved in a sex scandal.
Kiprop’s life has never been the same again after he tested positive for erythropoietin (EPO) in November 2017.
The three times champion was handed a four-year ban after he was found guilty of the offence.
According to the estranged wife, the athlete is undergoing stressful moments and he needs help instead of ridicule from users on social media.
“Asbel is depressed as we speak and needs urgent counselling. Kenyans should stand with him the same way they celebrated his wins,” Cherotich told Standard.
The athlete, who once put the nation on the world map, is now a shadow of his former self. He is facing a tough time after he was issued with a ban.
