State House spokesperson Kanze Dena on Wednesday revisited her difficult upbringing, citing cases where she was forced to do menial jobs for a living.
Speaking during an interview on Ghetto Radio, Dena revealed that she offered laundry services at home besides fetching water for people to earn a living. According to her, youths should not be choosy when looking for money.
Dena further revealed she was temporarily employed by her grandfather in a small hotel where she washed utensils and peeled potatoes. Later, she recalled, she was elevated to a waitress position.
She said the government is keen to educate youths on technical skills which would enable them to solve problems using skills and technique.
“There are a number of opportunities for the youth in our country. The government is emphasising on technical training to ensure the youth have the skills required for various jobs. There are various projects the government is undertaking under the Big 4 Agenda across the country. These projects require skilled labour where our youth can get job opportunities, even as the government works on a long term solution,” she said.
The State House spokesperson said the government is creating a database for jobless youths, a move which will help in securing jobs whenever opportunities are available.
"The government is also creating a database through the National Employment Authority where the youth can register so that they can be linked up with jobs that fit their profiles whenever these jobs come up,” she added.
Kanze Dena worked at KBC before moving to Royal Media's Citizen TV as a Kiswahili anchor. She was poached by President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2018, taking over from Manoah Esipisu, who moved to London as High Commissioner.
